Lots of creditors and retailers are doing this too. They take your paper check and some system turns it into an electronic check. It can really screw you up of you're counting on a little check float time. As for your interest rate and being booted out of their 'preferred' list, they apparently think that your debt load is too high for your income or you have too many cards with balances or your balance to limit ratio is too high. All of these things are what they use to find some way to screw people by suddenly increasing interest rates.
