i live in pennsylvania.

i have a charged-off Chase card...my credit report shows it was closed in april '99...does not show any other date of last activity. only transunion shows this debt...i got it deleted from experian and equifax. i remeber in march of 2000 i made a payment to the company it was charged off to.

in november of 2002 i got a threatening letter from Claims Recover System (the new owners of the debt). the debt is high...about $6000. i just ignored the letter (pretending i never received it in case they sent another letter), and have not heard from them since...until today, as i just got another threatening letter from Claims recovery systems..and they tell me to pay up within 10 days or they will pursue legal action.

the letter they sent in november of 2002 said they would pursue legal action then but never did. is this just another bogus scare tactic?

so what should i do about this letter? is the debt beyond the SOL..but with the amount being so high, is the SOL meaningless?
