garnishment of wages due to an auto reposesssion

Just wondering if anyone can help or offer any info on this matter. I cosigned with an exfiance on a car loan. We broke up and he took the car payed for about 4 mths and then was 90 days late- it got repo. I got noticed after it was repo. I could no longer afford to assume that debt and was sold at auction. Attorney keeps sending letters for me to pay the debt. I live in MN, car was purchased in MO. Debt owed currently on it is still about $5000. Can they garnish my wages? Does anyone know what they can do or what I should do. I appreciat any suggestions or imput. Thanks
