I was searching on my county's court records and I found a judgment from 12/98 for an apartment on which I broke the lease. The account went to Pierce, Hamilton, and Stern in January 1999 and I (stupidly!) paid $800.00 of the approx. $4500.00 they wanted for penalties, fees, etc. The judgment is for $867.00 plus $400.00 in attorney's fees.

I am in Virginia and I called the court because the case was listed as 'Inactive'. I was told that the judgment is good for ten years and that it can be renewed for another ten. It is accruing interest at 9% per annum.

The lawfirm has made no attempt to collect on the judgment. Should I contact them to esolve this or should I just let it go...?
