Pre-trial hearing is secret code for 'let's get the Defendant to admit to a bunch of fake, phony, sham charges, and fork over a pile of money."
Oh, the lawyer isn't allowed to settle for less than $110/month? Since when? When one hires a lawyer, he makes the decisions based upon his judgement and experience. Bullshale.
These pig-plops will try to get you to make admissions. Don't. They'll try to get you talking, so as to put you off center, at their mercy.
By all means, talk. Tell them about the freeze plugs letting go on Uncle Bilbo's '43 Packard out on Highway 66, how Auntie Stimpfoo's peach cobbler was the hit of the Hiroshima County Fair, and how you really love the way highway crew-artists so skillfully get those yellow lines to be perfectly parallel. Drive them insane with drivel. Ask if they've had their innoculations, tell them you're controlling their thoughts with a crystal diode, that they only exist in your mind, that they smell of crabcakes sprayed with Chanel # 5 and Dioxin.
Turn the tables on these shakedown thugs. Say little, sign nothing, tell the court you lack knowledge, request the enemy supply his evidence.

Evidentially,

Keyser Soze
