Collectors contacting relatives

I just found out that some collector (not sure which one, I haven't called back yet) contacted my grandparents because of my debt. He also told them I had given them that # to contact, which is a lie, they have a listed phone # and the same last name. If I call them back, and tell them they are not authorized to contact my relatives, well, are they obligated not to? I'm so upset about this, and now my poor grandparents are worried to death because they don't know what it's about.
