Cat, I am responding to the person who is in a position to buy a home. In those situations, judgments do hurt and the only way they go away and won't hurt you is to deal with them. The fact that 80% of the judgments never get collected is irrelevant. Those judgments always have the potential of getting collected if the person's fortunes turn around. If you can't get a judgment vacated, you will either have to hide and plead your lack of exemptions or file bankruptcy. There is no other way of dealing with judgments other than that unless you can prove that there was a default in judgment. THat did not apply in the posters situation especially if it is a default judgment.
