Credit reports and SOL

First I would like to thank everyone for their contributions to this site. It has been very informative and enlightening.

I have 2 credit card debts from around 1996. They were incurred in Texas where I lived at the time. Each card's principal was around $6000.00. As the SOL may be running out soon. I don't want to make any wrong moves that may stir up a suit. Do I understand correctly that if I request my Credit report that this may have unwanted repercussions with the creditors? What else do I need to becareful about?

My reason for wanting the credit reports was to find out when the last payment was made and when the SOL would be up. I've moved out of the state and no longer have any of the paperwork.

Also since I'm no longer in Texas, does that affect the length of the SOL?

Kind Regards,
Deb
