:I went through a bitter divorce last year and it came to light :that many of my credit card bills were paid VERy late ( I didnt :work because I stayed home with my autistic son). My ex :controlled our money by closing out our joint checking account :and opening his own leaving me with no account in my name at :all. When I divorced I discoverd because of a charge off through :a bank I cannot get a bank account. I did have one bill that :I did it myself to get it taken care of. So now I am looking :for a bank (local if i can (Bay Area) that will give me a :checking account without worrying too much about my past history :which I want to rebuild.
Chexsystems
is a totally seperate entity from
the "Credit
Beaureaus" such as experian,
transunion,
and equifax.
One could default on dozens
of credit card payments, yet still be able to open up a checking account. But bounce a couple checks, and you'll have a very difficult time finding a bank that will let you open a new checking account.
One thing that interesting point though, to
get a debit visa or a debit mastercard, banks
typically check your credit score. Interesting
since debit cards aren't an extension of credit.
No big deal, just get a standard credit ATM
and they won't check with the credit beaureaus.
