Please, I need advice...Why chat, anyone?

I a sorry. I posted earlier but got no responces. I am in a situation to where I have to make a decision by Wednesday. I have a few charge-offs (one around $3500) that are 1 1/2 years old. One CC that I had tried to pay fell behind later. I have now been sent a summons for court for that debt. Here's my question. Would it make more sense to file BK or to pay off debt in question in lawsuit (before trial) and wait out the charge-offs. It would cost about the same right now to do BK or pay OC. Either way, I am having to seek help from my relatives about the money. If I am looking at it right, (I am in Alabama) my SOL is 3 years? Would paying the OC before the court date make the CAs who have the charge-offs decide to come after me too? I hope this makes sense because I am so confused! By the way, neither my husband or I work at the same place as we did when we opened the accounts, plus our phone number was changed quite a while ago and remains unlisted. So far, we have not recieved and calls from the CAs, only letters and pretty infrequently. I would love any advice you could give. Thanks!
