My wife purchased a house in 1999 using her own credit and assets. I signed a quit claim due to vulnerability to possible liens or suits. (The debts have been SOL for 2-3 years now.)

Come to find out that a creditor filed a lien on her separate property in 2001 for my 1998 debt. (I satisfied it this year.) I do not think it is legal for them to do so. However, I have heard of people having frivolous liens filed on property. You can just go to the county assessor's office and file an affadavit. No proof or judgement is necessary.

What can we do to have this removed - threaten a lawsuit?
