Handling the collection agency

So I've just been notified that one of my accounts has been turned over to a collection agency. I didn't make a payment or anything yet. I was told to call back in a week with what I can do. What should I say whaen I call back? I've been doing a lot of research online and I know the basics of the FDCA. What should I say though. I'm pretty sure that that SOL is not up on this particular debt.
