I hope someone can help, Yesterday I was served papers for RI. small claims court for an old credit card account.
The papers have had the dates to answer and appear whited out and changed ( probably due to not being able to find me )
I believe the SOL is in effect but I have no way to prove this, as I have no old bills. I know the account became delinquent approx. 10 years ago. At the time I lived in CT, The account was opened at a store in RI.
I have been told that the relevant statute is the one for the state in which I resided at the time of the delinquency. Is this true even though I opened the account in RI? I know CT. SOL is 6 years, RI is 10
The suit is filed by an attorney for a CA. No docket number. the date to answer is 8/28 the date to appear is 9/11. They didn't give me much time. Any help on what I can do?
