collections on a fleet card

Is there a statute of limitations on collections in NY. I have a fleet card I haven't paid on in almost a year can I get a charge off. A collection agency in NJ keeps calling me and harassing me about this money to the point where I am afraid to answer the phone. Do I have to deal with him or can I call fleet bank directly.
